In May 2022, a groundbreaking project commenced to transform Detroit's West Riverfront Park into a vibrant and dynamic community space. Scheduled to open in 2025, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park promises to be a cornerstone of the city's rejuvenation efforts, featuring the Delta Dental Play Garden, a vast lawn for events, basketball courts in the sport house, and a large water garden. We are proud to have played a role in this transformation by constructing and installing a 20' x 10' x 8' precast concrete building to house the park's electrical infrastructure.Â
Our task was to design, build, and install a durable and functional precast concrete building that would integrate into the park's infrastructure. This building is essential for housing the electrical components that will power the park's various features and facilities, ensuring they operate smoothly and efficiently.
THE SOLUTION
Precast Concrete Building
Design and Planning:
Our journey began with planning and design. Given the critical nature of the building's purpose, we needed to ensure it was robust, weather-resistant, and secure. The dimensions were set at 20 feet in length, 10 feet in width, and 8 feet in height with custom voids to accommodate all necessary electrical equipment while fitting into the park's landscape.
Manufacturing:
Once the design was finalized, the precast concrete building panels were produced at our facility in Highland, MI. Concrete precasting offers several advantages, including controlled manufacturing conditions, which lead to higher quality and consistency, and reduced construction time on-site.
Installation:
The building was transported to Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park in six precast concrete panels and positioned and in a matter of 4 to 5 hours, the building was installed, and the site crews could begin installing their electrical components.Â
THE RESULT
Impact on Ralph Wilson Park
This newly installed electrical building is a cornerstone of the park's infrastructure. It will manage power to the Delta Dental Play Garden, expansive lawn, sport house, and water garden, supporting a wide range of activities and events. We were excited to contribute to the park's visitors and look forward to seeing the parks completion.Â
